I am a researcher in the physics of particle accelerators. I enjoy problem-solving both through simulations and practical work. I share my enthusiasm for physics through teaching, mentoring and outreach activities. I currently work on crystal collimation for the Large Hadron Collider at CERN and am designing a double-crystal experiment for the LHC. I completed my particle accelerator PhD based at STFC Daresbury Laboratory, UK. I have previously worked as a science teacher (physics specialist) at Birchwood Community High School.My PhD thesis explores the beam transport of laser-wakefield accelerated (LWFA) electrons to undulators, which can lead to future compact ultra-violet and x-ray light sources. I have carried out simulation studies as part of my research and am familiar with many of the tracking codes used to design and model particle accelerators. My PhD research has resulted in four conference papers and two peer-reviewed journal papers.During my PhD studies, I taught (demonstrated) part-time at the University of Manchester in the undergraduate physics laboratory and on computing (Python, C++) courses. I have also been actively involved in outreach projects to promote physics and STEM to under-represented groups. My skills in this area enabled me to achieve Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2020.My key skills include physics, particle accelerators, beamline design, beam dynamics, simulations, problem-solving, academic writing, teaching, mentoring and outreach.
