Kay Walsh is the managing director of Nova Economics, a specialist economic and strategy consultancy. Prior to founding Nova Economics, she led the economics advisory team within the strategy practice at Deloitte Consulting South Africa. Kay has over 15 years’ experience working as an economist in the consulting and investment banking industries. She has focused on the analysis of economic policy and regulation, market analysis, corporate strategy development, cost-benefit analysis and econometric modelling. Kay consults to clients across of a range of industries but has particularly strong experience in the energy and financial service sectors.Kay recently provided an expert opinion in the matter between Eskom and NERSA, on economic and regulatory issues that were central to the dispute regarding the determination of Eskom’s tariff in a series of historical revenue and RCA applications. She led a study to scope the market for off-grid cleaner energy solutions in five Southern African markets for the United Nations Development Programme and she also assisted the UNDP to develop a conceptual framework for the linkages between financial inclusion and inclusive economic growth. She produced an economic appraisal of two proposed hydroelectric plants in Malaysia for the national utility – Tenega Nasional Berhad.Kay obtained a master’s degree in economics (cum laude) in 2004. She has represented her previous employers ‐ Rand Merchant Bank and Deloitte on various national business and news television channels
