I am a crisis intervention specialist (CIS) at the Huckleberry House. I handled incoming calls to our crisis line as well as walk-ins. We worked with at risk youth aged 12-17 who need a safe place to stay amidst a crisis. We engaged in 2 group sessions a day which would allow me to lead one on almost every shift. These group sessions involved utilizing games or other things that interest youth and attempt to engage the youth in therapeutic conversations, with things such as learning about responsibility, learning feeling words, and so on.

I was a student manager. I started as a student assistant as a basic server. I moved up to student lead around March of 2023. This promotion gave me many more responsibilities. These tasks include cleaning tables, cleaning stations at the end of the night, filling the dishes, helping clean dishes in our dish room, and helping students navigate their ways around the dining hall in any way I can. Now as a student manager I supervise the whole shift, making sure the student staff are doing what they need to do as well as continuing my task. I also work between this location and our coffee shop attached to this. I supervise shifts at this location as well, making sure food is going out and it is correct. I know how to serve food, clean stations, make coffee, make bagel sandwiches, and supervise a shift. In my student manager role I supervise the students but also build community among them by interacting regularly. I remember things about them allowing me to connect certain students with things in common.

I was a crew leader. I am cross-trained in every position. I can do the cash register, take orders, make drinks/ice cream, drop food in fryers, cook on the grill, and top the burgers and hotdogs. I can count down drawers, drop deposits and even make schedules. I helped in whatever position needed it, whether it was front of house and back of house. This crew leader position allowed me to gain my first leadership experience over others. I grew many leadership skills during my time here and learned the basics of running shifts.
