I do not believe I am here to empower people; my philosophy is that people are the heroes of their own stories, and they can empower themselves, but I am standing beside them if they ever need a hand. My goal for any current or future career paths or roles is for this greater purpose: reducing the burdens of people who have very little or no power over those burdens because of our world's history of oppression. Our system is broken, and I will do the best that I can to support the transformation into a system that is just and equitable. I have worked and volunteered for several different non-profits in and around Riverside, California for the past 10 years. After receiving my Master of Social Work in 2019, I began working for Rebirth Homes, a non-profit that provides services to individuals who have been trafficked. This role has been a pivotal experience in my life, because of the range of experiences I have had the pleasure of taking part in. I have gained experience in a multitude of non-profit and business related areas, including trauma-informed direct client services and care, crisis intervention, outreach, case management, program development and management, strategic planning, and many other experiences. In the last two years, my role shifted to an operational role where I have been able to refine skills in donor relations, grant writing and management, accounting, budgeting, and social enterprise development. Through these experiences I have determined that my desired position is to be a supportive piece for the visionaries who founded these non-profits, or are behind these causes that have a purpose of helping people carry burdens that were not meant to ever be carried by a human being, let alone carried by oneself.
