Kaye McLeod has been in private practice since 1981, with a focus on family law. In her early practice, she was an active member of the Arkansas Bar Association, and helped to establish the committees on Legal Services to the Elderly and Legal Services to the Deaf. She participated in drafting legislation in Arkansas to establish a court interpreter for the deaf in all cases where a hearing-impaired person was a party. Kaye also served on the Association's House of Delegates and Executive Council. From 1990-1996, she was appointed by the Arkansas Supreme Court to serve on the Board of Law Examiners, and was the Chair from 1994-1995. In her year as Chair on the Board, she initiated creation of the Arkansas Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program. She is a charter Fellow of the Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys, previously known as the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys, formed in 1990 (www.adoptionart.org), and has served on the Academy's Board of Trustees, and the Ethics and Grievances Committee. Kaye served as a co-chair of the Academy's Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) Committee for over ten years. In 2002, she was presented an Angels in Adoption award from the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute in recognition of her outstanding example and commitment to promoting adoption. In 2007 and 2008, she was presented with the President's Award by the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys for dedicated and extraordinary service to the Academy and to improving adoption law. Kaye has been actively involved in drafting and working with the Arkansas General Assembly to effect positive changes to Arkansas adoption law since 1985.
