Michael founded and built Mother Design, an independent and highly acclaimed branding, and design studio, in 2006. His iconic work with clients ranging from Revlon to Wired, from Marriot to Microsoft, and from New York Fashion Week to The Sundance Film Festival has been instrumental in not only defining these brands but integrating them into the cultural landscape. During this time Kaye also served as Partner and Executive Creative Director at Mother New York. Working with brands like Clavin Klein, Diageo, and Target, he was a cultivator, curator, and contributor of globally recognized work, agency growth, amazing talent, and meaningful client relationships. His work for Target helped the retailer regain its status as America's most inclusive and sought-after style destination. A veteran in the design space, Michael brings over 30 years of experience to SYLVAIN. Starting his career at Penguin Publishing, he became known for designing memorable book covers for the publishing industry at large. From Malcolm Gladwell’s Tipping Point to Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club, his work contributed to defining author's brands, while creating recognizable icons of culture. He has been a contributor to the New York Times, a teacher at The School of Visual Arts, designed the original logo for fashion designer Kate Spade and he has work that resides in the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. Most recently, Kaye has been designing and developing a hospitality project in Vieques, Puerto Rico, doing interior design for private clients and advising brands across a variety of business sectors.
