Engineer in the Mechanical Components department for commissioned submarines. Components include, but are not limited to, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, fasteners, bearings, and diesel generators. Review issues with components due to manufacturing error or wear and provide solutions for quick maintenance and future prevention. Reverse engineer and replace obsolete designs.

My first summer project was Lean Manufacturing. I worked in the Engineering Department to create, edit and obsolete routers for specific parts with the Syteline Program. I also worked with a team to improve their linear and paper system into a more efficient and electronic system. My second summer project was in the metallurgy lab where I polished microcubes, microslices and did on-part-micros on finished parts. I also line-intercept rated microslices. This project was offered to me as part time work at the completion of the summer. I worked five to ten hours a week while taking classes and; Over the third summer, I worked on part of new quality tracking system (QMS) implementation team and updated standard cost routers in Syteline MRP system to align with the new QMS system.

An orthopedic surgeon from UMass Hospital introduced us to problems he faces everyday in the field. From this we formed two problems: How to model an osteoporotic bone and also how to restore damaged ligament to its original mechanical properties. We worked throughout the term to research and form an experiment and then complete the experiment for both projects.Design Experimentation October 2009-December 2009As a term-long, group project, we designed and created a protocol for a multipurpose surface for wheelchairs that would hide away when not in use. We used dual surfaces that slid out from the arm rests and folded over. The surfaces interlocked and were very stable. It was designed to enable you to use both or one at a time.

Record all PO’s into the Grant Accounting spreadsheet. Mix solutions for the creation of microthreads. Bundle and separate microthreads to promote cell growth for rat heart surgery. Make slides for the graduate students.
