About Kayla Ferguson
What do Hollywood and philanthropy have in common? Both require a lot of money šµ to make things happen! Cue my career path from a Hollywood top talent agency assistant to Grant Manager / Senior Program Manager a national health-focused non-profit. The entertainment industry, dynamic and fast-paced, equips those who work in it with strong communication, networking, and relationship-building skills, qualities are invaluable in philanthropy, where collaboration and effective communication are crucial for driving positive social impact. So, after spending years in Hollywood working as a freelance filmmaker as well as for both a global talent agency and major television studio, I decided I wanted to take some time to experience the world rather than watch other people do it on the big (and small) screen. So, from May 2015 to May 2016 I traveled to 26 countries throughout Asia, Europe and South America š āļø.Upon returning back to the United States, my passion for nurturing healthy, thriving communities lead me to the Davis Phinney Foundation in 2018, where I now serve as the Grant Manager overseeing our community and research grant initiatives, supporting groups around the country doing the hard work to build equitable and just healthcare systems.PHILANTHROPY CAREER HIGHLIGHTS šµ-While at the Davis Phinney Foundation, I created, launched and scaled a national community grant program that has funded nearly $750,000 to date, since launching in 2021-I've overseen the management and distribution of nearly $1,000,000 worth of funds supporting quality of life research at notable domestic and international institutionsWHO I HELPā National non-profits and foundations looking to realize the promise of philanthropy through trust-based and participatory grantmakingā Community groups working at local and regional levels to instigate change needed to build thriving, healthy and just communitiesCORE COMPETENCIES*Program/project strategy and development *Program/project management *Grant management *Financial management and budget monitoring *Project monitoring and evaluation *Research and analysis*Strategic partnership development *Relationship and change management *Meeting facilitation *Creative and technical writingAre you passionate about the power of philanthropy to transform communities?
