She started in January of 2020, after spending two years in Eastern Iowa working at KGAN/KFXA in Cedar Rapids. Kayla started with KGAN/KXFA after graduating from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree both in Political Science – Civil Liberties and Telecommunications – News. During her time with KCCI, Kayla’s covered a number of stories and situations, including local protests throughout the month of June 2020 into early July as a result of George Floyd’s death. As a general assignment reporter with KGAN/KFXA, Kayla covered extended searches for missing young people, including the search for Mollie Tibbetts and Jake Wilson. She also covered several local school threats after Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, localizing national changes and their impact, and economic development in several coverage area towns and cities. Through her time at the University of Florida, Kayla has experience in both radio and television, as well as a constantly growing experience in utilizing the web to get information out to the public. In addition to news, Kayla is a sports enthusiast and spent two of her four years at the University of Florida working with ESPN Gainesville 95.3 as a producer and multimedia journalist, creating content to go on air and on the website. Kayla hopes to continue learning and expanding on her abilities to tackle the many controversies in life by interviewing citizens and telling their story that so many can relate to.
