About Kayla T.
I am a multi-hyphenate artist, educator and arts administrator with a curiosity and passion for engagement, stemming from the witnessing of the transformative power the arts hold in community. After 6 years as a professional actor, I aim to use my theatre vernacular and body of work to be useful in this moment, here and now. Most recently, I served as the Educational Programs Coordinator for NEMPAC, a non-profit community music school in Boston’s North End neighborhood. At NEMPAC, I worked closely with faculty, students, and the community to develop accessible, high-quality arts programming for 200+ students and supporting 20+ instructors in music, theatre and dance while also managing community partnerships and supporting fundraising initiatives. In June 2024, I will step into a director-level postion at The West End House, an independent Boys and Girls Club in Allston Brighton, where I will provide leadership for all team members working in Music, Visual Arts, and Performing Arts, focusing on program quality and program offerings, increasing engagement, re-establishing the Music Clubhouse, and expanding partnership opportunities. For 10+ years,I have worked as a Theatre Teaching Artist, focusing on ensemble-based practice, the authentic voice, play and devising and how theatre can be used as a cross-curricular tool to aid young people's success in all areas of study and life. In May 2024, I obtained my MFA in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre from Emerson College, where my research advocated for the curricular nature of theatre in schools and communities. My MFA thesis research project explored the challenges and possibilities of using applied theatre to amplify the narratives of First-Generation College Students on their campus. In addition, I worked closely with ArtsEmerson during a year long fellowship program and subsequent student employment in the Office of Artistic Engagement to support programming for Boston’s leading presenter of contemporary global theatre.
