About Makayla Valisno

With a true and strong passion for Business, I plan to focus in a post-secondary education in Business Strategy and/or Management. Additionally, I find interest in city development, hoping to also pursue a degree in Urban Development Studies.As of right now, I am a dedicated and motivated grade 12 student at Notre Dame High School. The past three school years, I have had the opportunity to offer up a myriad of leadership contributions to my school community. My first high school leadership position came right when my high school journey began; by representing the Grade 9 student body on Student Council. Our 2021-2022 Council was lucky enough to safely kickstart some events as the Coronavirus pandemic slowly came to an end. I have also been greatly fortunate to be one of the spirited hosts of the TCDSB's annual charity event: ND Dance Off!, for the 2023 season after the Covid hiatus; and then anchored the event again for the 2024 show! One of my most prominent contributions to Notre Dame was my ambition to bring forward a POS system to be used within our school community. The card reader has now been used for school trip payment, events and fundraisers.In addition, I currently work at the Kumon Scarborough - Kennedy & Lawrence Centre, where I help construct a positive learning environment to support students' educational journeys within the subjects of Mathematics and English. In my second semester of my Junior year, I continued to build and learn new skills through my Co-op placement at the Ontario Science Centre as a Visitor Services Assistant. This summer, I was able to resume work with the Ontario Science Centre as a Visitor Services Student Associate.
