Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Kaylee Elijah has always been incredibly passionate about educational equity and justice. She grew up going to Title 1 public schools in the neighborhood of North Hollywood, and as a child of immigrants, she became deeply passionate in learning about the diverse communities that made up the city she lived in. She pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and a minor in Professional Writing at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she refined her skills in communication while also studying how culture and interacts with public policy and infrastructure. As an undergraduate student, Kaylee dedicated much of her time to social justice efforts, researching minority communities in the LA area, and language learning. Immediately after graduating from UCLA, she embarked on her journey with Teach for America because of her goal to close the opportunity gap for young students like her. Currently, she is a 2nd grade teacher with Rocketship Public Schools in San Jose, CA. She ultimately aims to achieve educational justice and equity for every single one of her students. Aside from school and work, Kaylee loves to discuss social justice issues and politics, listen to Kpop music, and spoil her tiny dog named Pepper.
