After graduating from Middle Park High School in spring 2013, Kaylene took a year off from education. During that year she was a nanny, and really thought about her career goals. In determining that a Child Life Specialist career might really fit her, she researched college programs that would best prepare her. In her searching she decided to visit Colorado State University (CSU), and shortly after applying she was accepted.In the fall of 2014 after taking some classes, she realized that at this point in her life a career in child life was not the best for her. Kaylene continued down the path in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS), and in spring 2015 she determined that she wanted to take classes that she enjoyed. So she declared a double major in HDFS and psychology. With both majors she is following her academic interests, and sees graduate school in her future once her career goals are more set in stone.Kaylene was raised in Fraser, CO. Living in the mountains, she feels a strong connection to being outside. Being around, caring for, and helping others’ is one of her biggest passions, especially younger children. This past summer, Kaylene landed her first adult job as a summer program attendant at Winter Park Resort. Getting to be outside, and around people, mostly families, confirmed that her majors relate to her personal interests, and in time will fit with her career goals.College is helping her get one step closer to determining and reaching her career goals. After graduation in spring 2018, she hopes to spend some time traveling, and really figuring out what she wants to do and be in her future. Kaylene is still unsure of what she will do for internships and/or research projects as a college undergraduate. As of right now she is really content with following her passions.
