My position in India was initially to study the feasibility of opening a new technical office in India for Tecnicas Reunidas. We identified Valdel Engineers & Constructors as an ideal partner for a joint venture; my job criteria from then on was to ensure the successful operation of our Indian office with special emphasis as Head of Stress and Supports. During the years my role has extended to cover Piping Design. My responsibilities and tasks:Technical supervision and guidance to achieve high quality designs whilst respecting available man-hours and planning curves.Management of multiple projects, initial man-hour evaluation & estimation of potential bids, planned deployment of resources dependent on the phase of the project and review of budgets and change orders.Delegation of up to 50 Stress and Supports personnel and shared responsibility in the management of a further 90 Piping Design team. Coordination between other departments like Civil and Process.Estimation and planning personnel requirements for future projects. Recruitment and development of new staff including fresh graduates. Able to identify and assign talented leaders and engineers in appropriate positions. Bi-annual review of staff.Introduction of company procedures, standards and isometric control management to improve quality.Preparation of progress reportsSupervision of critical systems such as those connected to Heaters, Reactors, Compressors (reciprocating & centrifugal) & Reboilers. Identifying critical areas and employ strategies to tackle difficult areas whilst achieving mini project targets.
