About Katherine Bergeron
My mission is to help farmers earn greater livelihoods through initiatives that simultaneously build resilience to climate change. It is my love for nature that instigated my studies in Agricultural Engineering and my curiosity for diverse experiences that lead me to study, volunteer and later work abroad, ultimately allowing me to discover a sense of purpose in working with remote and underserved communities. The way I am currently working towards my mission is as a Reforestation Project Manager at Taking Root, where I help reforestation and agroforestry projects generate income for farmers through the sale of trees or carbon credits. I help develop robust projects that mimic our renowned CommuniTree project in Nicaragua and use our technology platform to verify the forest impacts. These projects provide both financial and non-financial benefits to farmers, it is a joy to hear the pride with which they speak of their beautiful forests and the positive impact they are having on climate change. While I am clear on my niche, I tend to be a generalist in my approach. I have raised millions of dollars through grant writing to fund outstanding initiatives, I have developed several programs as a consultant to local NGOs, I have worked in the field implementing projects with local partners, and I have coached talented entrepreneurs to launch new businesses. I see myself as a social engineer, capable of developing optimized solutions that serve people and planet. I am inspired by the potential I see in the people and cultures in far off places, and am humbled by how much they teach me. I would love to hear of your initiative and how we might collaborate.
