About Ken Hayes

I help companies grow, get financed, increase revenue and build value. I specialize in Strategic Business Development, Corporate Development, Start-up Finance, Revenue Generation, and Digital Marketing Strategy. My industry expertise includes Cleantech, Climate-tech, Venture Capital, Angel Investing, Internet Advertising, New Media, SaaS and E-learning.I've been an entrepreneur and built and sold my companies. I've also worked at senior levels in large blue-chip companies. I'm an Advisor to early stage companies and their CEO's. My personal mission is to help entrepreneurs make the world a better place *and* become financially successful. Leading hundreds of experienced mentors per year, we level-up innovators to improve their business skills. We then introduce startups to investors. I'm all-in with cleantech, climate-tech, sustainability and circular economy.In 2014 I co-founded the early-stage venture capital fund, Canyon Creek Capital - II, investing in 40+ companies (Relativity Space, Miso Robotics, Wear FIGS, Pongalo/VIX, etc) and raising about 1/3 of the fund. Along with being a Member of the Pasadena Angels, recently serving on the Board of Directors, I work to grow the Los Angeles technology start-up scene. I source and screen deals. I mentor entrepreneurs and perform due diligence with fellow investors. I step in to provide hands-on senior management leadership for invested companies, as needed. Earlier in my career, I earned an MBA at INSEAD France, while working 13 years in Europe (5 countries) after college. I love to work with international teams and projects. I can get very different people to work great together and be productive.I became hooked on road and gravel cycling several years ago, so now I'm pretty fit. It's the new golf, trust me.

    Lead Cleantech Open to deliver on its mission to find, fund, and foster entrepreneurs with big ideas that address today's most urgent energy, environmental, and economic challenges. Cleantech Open is the oldest and largest business accelerator in the cleantech sector, with programs and competitions run in six regions in the USA and foreign countries. Over 120 startups per year and 1,900 companies total have run through its programs in the US since 2005. I manage the national organization (full P&L), responsible for major fundraising, partnerships, curriculum, systems and operations, with a handful of paid staff and over 1,000 volunteers nationwide. The buck stops with me. We work with over 600 investors, VC's, corporates and ecosystem partners to help CTO's alumni entrepreneurs get to the next steps in their business journey.In 2020, we reorganized from holding 100+ in-person events per year, to operating and executing programs 100% virtually, and the Accelerator thrived. We are evolving to a hybrid model in 2023, as our major events, National Academies and Global Forum resume in-person.
