About Kristen B. Metzger

I grew up among the evergreens of Oregon's Willamette Valley, majoring in Biology at the University of Oregon before spending a year in Americorps at a marine science center in Washing State. Following two years of fieldwork for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, I completed my Master's Degree in Outdoor and Environmental Education at Alaska Pacific University. From the chilly north, I moved to Los Angeles and embraced the sunny chaparral and urban forest, and embraced a career in experiential learning!I have over a decade of experience in informal learning and education, including five years at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County leading interpretive and informal programs for public and schools, two years supporting student sustainability projects with TreePeople. As I grew more passionate about play and its essential role in fostering lifelong learning and meaningful connection to others, I transitioned to Kidspace, where I currently work to foster a culture of play within the museum and improve access to play in our communities.Outside of my formal work, I love to informally learn myself, and enjoy several hobbies, including cooking, reading, journaling, hiking, and collaborative storytelling through role playing games.
