Projection Designer, The Falling & The RisingSeattle Opera May 2019 - Nov 2019Greater Seattle AreaThis was the Seattle offshoot of a multi-year educational project with Opera Memphis, which involved Graphic Design students at the University of Memphis. The full-length opera The Falling & The Rising was the subject at this year's Midtown Opera Festival at Playhouse On The Square. It’s a beautiful piece about our soldiers and the sacrifices they make. And…it’s the first opera commissioned by the United States Army.I worked with the Seattle Opera on their own production of The Falling & The Rising, which premiered Friday, November 15, 2019. This was the very first performance in their brand new Tagney Jones Hall space. UofM Graphic Design Senior Tin Kure was able to spend a few days onsite contributing to the piece and learning the process. A particular thank you to the students from last Spring's Motion Design class, who curated the vast majority of the images for the projections. Bravi tutti! From SeattleOpera.com: "The intimate, fully-staged, 70-minute chamber opera is performed by 5 singers and an 11-piece orchestra in Tagney Jones Hall at the new Opera Center." -

Digital Scenic + Screen Designer/Producer, Ted Talks LiveTed Conferences Oct 2015 - Sep 2016Greater New York City AreaI am honored to have worked as screen producer and designer for this 6-night series of live TED Talks on Broadway, which took place Nov. 1-6, 2015 at NYC's beautiful Town Hall theater in Times Square. The themes were Education Revolution, War & Peace, and Science & Wonder, and featured speakers and performers such as Elvis Costello, Anna Deavere Smith, Chris Anderson, Adam Driver, Meshell Ndegeocello, Rufus & Martha Wainwright, Thomas Dolby, and others from NASA, Pixar, DARPA, MIT, Radiolab, Stanford and more. The weeklong engagement was then edited & broadcast as PBS specials throughout the following year. "TED Talks: Science & Wonder", debuted on March 30, 2016; "TED Talks: War and Peace" aired on May 30, 2016; and "TED Talks: Education Revolution" wrapped up the series on September 13, 2016.Seth Easter Design did the physical set and handled all the LED details, Sarah Rossi shot a bunch of custom images for the show, animator Dan Baker helped out with custom motion graphics, and Peter Acken busted out the programming.PBS began airing the talks in three individual primetime specials on March 30, 2016. -
Virtual Sets + Screen Designer, The Tony AwardsThe Tony Awards Jan 2011 - Dec 2015Greater New York City AreaFor the five award ceremonies from 2011-2015 (and again in 2022), I was tasked with digitally recreating and animating theater sets that could be manipulated live during broadcast, for each of the performing nominees. The goal was to fool viewers' eyes into believing there is real scenery on stage, when in reality almost all of it is video content in giant LED screens.I worked with a very talented group of people to make it all happen: art director Seth Easter, photographers Dallas Raleigh and Sarah Rossi-Bell, animator Dan Baker, and programming voodoo-maker Peter "Evil Jesus" Acken. This was a custom process we created & developed in 2011, and which we continually refined & evolved over the next years as new challenges and requests arose.

Live Data Visualization Producer For Annual Gala EventsRobin Hood Jan 2009 - Dec 2011Greater New York City AreaFor 3 consecutive years, I implemented custom live data visualizations for this incredible charity event. In partnership with Brian Oakes, Jon Stewart, and Alex Coletti, this series of applications was created for the Robin Hood Foundation’s Gala extravaganza, held at NYC’s Javits Center. The challenge was to develop remote-controlled motion graphics that could display live event information on a series of 20-foot projection screens. As attendees made their donations, the results were displayed on demand (or alternatively as a live feed if requested) through these custom-designed apps. I was honored to be responsible for building and controlling these apps onsite during the events that benefit the homeless and underprivileged in New York. -
