Products include: WordPress core, WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, Beeper, Day One, Tumblr, Newspack, Pocket Casts, Gravatar, VideoPress, Longreads, Akismet, P2, and more. - Member of Executive Leadership Team, reporting directly to the founder/CEO. Representing Design within a team of cross functional executives who drive and implement company direction and strategy across all business units. - Closely partner with CEO, Product, and Engineering leadership on company-wide reviews to level up product and design quality.- Responsible for hiring, staffing and allocation, performance management and evaluation, design quality, mentorship, promotions, feedback loops, defining expectations, designing, bug fixing, defining learning and growth programs. I'm a generalist with a product design background. I love collaborating and working alongside people to create conditions for great work to happen. I enjoy traveling between altitudes - setting direction and following it through to implementation. Staying close to the work and the people doing the work is important to me. This leadership role began as interim in 2019 while I also lead a product design team. Starting out this way helped me "practice what I preached" for the first two years of the role. I've been full time in it since 2022.

Jul 2019 - Present

Design Director, Wordpress

San Francisco, Us

I led the design team who worked on the open source WordPress project within Automattic. We primarily worked on dramatically rethinking WordPress. The project name was Gutenberg, and it began with redesigning how you create, edit, theme and manage your site in a more design and user friendly approach. I also completely rebuilt the team to become the highest performing design team at the company. The team worked completely in public on open source software. It was made up of product, brand, and theme designers.

Jul 2020 - Feb 2022

Design Director, Woocommerce

San Francisco, Us

I led design for all eCommerce products at Automattic. This includes WooCommerce, its extensions, cloud services, mobile apps, the marketplace, as well as our hosted eCommerce solution on WordPress.com. I lead the product direction for the latter. I managed a team of product and marketing designers as well as a user researcher. Our team was the first to have research role at the company and I was able to start that practice. Our team worked closely with product development teams to create the best products for our customers. We practiced a design-lead approach, which was centered around listening to our customers. I was also responsible for hiring and growing our design team. I took the team from 2 to 17. I was part of the business leadership team for WooCommerce. I worked with the product, finance, marketing, and partnership leads to set the vision and strategy for WooCommerce.I lead the product direction, management, design, and development for Store on WP.com while on this team. It was a dramatic redesign of the core product, which was cumbersome and outdated, and integrated natively to WordPress.com, a more user friendly product.

Jan 2016 - Jul 2020

Product Designer, Wordpress.Com

San Francisco, Us

I worked with a small team of engineers to design, implement, and iterate on products used by millions of WordPress.com users. We were responsible for many integral features including writing and editing posts and pages, sharing content to third parties, authorizing external services, and uploading/editing/managing media. I would design and then style during the implementation phase. As part of a larger team of designers in the design org, I started a "Trash Pickup" initiative, which promotes actively maintaining and cleaning up any visual inconsistencies across any one of our 12 major products. It has since spread to the rest of the company to not only include design but documentation, marketing copy, code, and content. I also ran our company's Hack Day, which takes place three times a year.
