About Keith Cotterill

For as long as I can remember, there have been two sides to my personality that conflict. One side is intuitive, creative and empathetic, and the other side is action-oriented, organized, and analytical. The conflict between them forces me to think more strategically, with a broader perspective, evaluating all options before taking action.I sometimes think the word ‘career’ is associated with how you careen down a mountain, often at top speed and slightly out of control, rather than how you successfully progress from one increasingly important role to another.My slightly out-of-control career includes halts and pivots in the journey to enter new industries, face new challenges and master new innovations. I'm fundamentally curious: I chose to explore different roles, technologies, geographies, and business areas. I migrated from the United Kingdom to California with a similar desire for new adventures.Much of my approach to a career stems from where I started. I studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University and use these three filters to address every business obstacle. In philosophy, you ask why people are doing things, what motivates them, and what's the framework for analyzing why they are doing it. You search for the fundamentals behind everything. Secondly, the politics of any situation is complicated. It is important to understand the background of people and why they hold the views they have, and how to gain influence to prevail or merely understand people's perspectives.
