I am the Platform Manager for an internal team building a new, strategic Web Platform. We have two primary goals:1. To provide a better way to build and manage websites for teams across the British Red Cross, so they can deliver their services and reach their audiences without having to worry about any of the logistics.2. To make the way we build and manage websites much more efficient, sustainable, and scalable.We're using modern tools and practices to make this happen. Working closely with stakeholders, suppliers, and internal delivery teams to ensure that the British Red Cross is getting maximum value out of the platform powering its main website.- Coordination between product owners and managers across the organisation to ensure available resources are used efficiently and to minimise duplication of effort.- Working with product and content owners to elicit requirements and develop a roadmap for the platform.- Responsible for defining minimum viable products and prioritising the platform backlog.- Owning the support model, function, and SLAs for the platform.- Documenting and curating all material related to platform development, configuration, and support.- Overseeing the development pipeline.- Incident management.

- Supporting the Digital Product Lead to maintain and enhance products across the Digital Estate, and the entire team’s capability to do so.- Acting as the day-to-day lead for the main digital platform and environment, working closely with internal teams and external agencies to deliver change in four-week sprints, and adapting those sprints and sprint contents to the organisation’s changing needs and priorities.- Working with the Senior Back-end Developer to improve the team’s approach to deployments, testing, and monitoring.- Taking a leading role in responding to incidents, and improving the approach to incident response for the entire team. This includes embedding existing and new tools into a reliable framework that supports the incident responders and the organisation’s ability to learn.- Providing training and support to internal and, occasionally, external customers.

- Ongoing product analysis and enhancement, including new features, security, performance, and maintainability.- Increasing the speed at which change and value could be delivered into the product, through:-- Creating a bespoke, shareable local development environment that reduced issues caused by differing configurations. (This included writing scripts to fine-tune setup tasks.)-- Creating and enhancing the Software Development Life-Cycle Plan, and then supporting that with a custom, Kanban-style Jira workflow.-- Detailed change requests containing both user stories and specific implementation guidance for Drupal.-- Automated testing and deployments to QA and UAT.-- Pre-defined and enforced Pull Request checklists, including stakeholder approval.- Managing an external development agency to deliver through the workflow described above.- Providing training and editorial and technical support to a wide range of content contributors.

Responding to and resolving access and registration issues, as well as general customer service for users of the website.Monitoring and analysing performance and popularity of all aspects of the organisation's website with a view to suggesting improvements whenever possible.Providing design mock-ups and functionality prototypes for new features or areas of the website.Working with many teams across the organisation to ensure that the product of their work is easily accessible and presented as nicely as possible.Managing the relationship and workload of an independent web developer, retained on contract.Assisting the organisation with consolidating their digital assets, so far including merging a hugely popular themed-campaign website into the main website, without loss of functionality or damaging the design.I also manage the organisation's intranet platform, and am planning a complete overhaul and relaunch to modernise the intranet with a view to collaboration and user-friendliness.

Coordinating a ‘website audit’ including planning and writing new content inline with development of a brand new website and using Google Analytics to analyse and advise on popular content and missed opportunities.Using Google Adwords to create adverts for high profile campaigns.Researching and writing articles for the organisation’s website and blog, as well as articles for external publications. Writing press-releases about up-coming campaigns.Using the Content Management System Concrete5 to create web pages, with new content, ready to be made public.Troubleshooting the occasional HTML errors that come up when creating content with various designs or included media.
