As a School Learning Support Officer, I worked predominantly with indigenous students with varying levels of ASD and symptoms of depression, anxiety, addiction and eating disorders. Most of these children were in out-of-home care, and a distressing number of students had been exposed to events that caused emotional and psychological trauma. Working with students in the support classroom in an individual and group capacity, I supported children as they worked to understand and control their emotions, developed their communication strategies, and strengthened their literacy and numeracy skills. In the wider school, guided by the classroom teachers, I tested students on their spelling and sounds, listened to and read and assisted with group work and served as a teacher’s aide, enabling every child to have the chance of having the education they want and deserve.

Although Mauritius is developing, it is still considered a third-world country. I volunteered at the local public school to help cover staff shortages. As a result, I was accepted into the Mauritian community, a feat not easily achieved by foreigners and one that I am most proud of. Before I left Mauritius, I was humbled to be offered the position of Principal at the school, an honour that had never been extended to an expatriate.While working with the school I managed the administration duties for the Principle. Recording staff and student attendance, calculating monthly salaries, transport allowances, and school expenses, as well as drafting email correspondences addressed to government officials and supportive philanthropic businesses.My work with children focused on encouraging students to develop their communication strategies, empathetic responses, and relationships, all while improving their literacy and numeracy skills. English is most of the children’s 3rd language, if underdeveloped they do not have the opportunity to enter the workforce in a position above a labourer, maid, fisherman or gardener. It was my pleasure to inspire these children to develop the necessary skills required to ascertain and work towards their dreams.

In this role, although mostly ad hoc, it was my duty to ensure the hospitality director was up to date with all legislation, training, and industrial standards. Other regular tasks included transcribing dictations, drafting letters, documents, and proposals, as well as completing general errands of a personal and professional nature as required.In addition to this I planned and executed events for the director, which varied from large garden parties to lavish working lunches and intimate beach BBQs.

Working remotely from Mauritius, I managed the lifestyle of the members residing in South Africa. Supported by a global team, my objective was to achieve the unachievable for our members based in South Africa.Distributed monthly, The South African event and lifestyle guide was my responsibility to research, write and publish. These guides were available to 250,000 members worldwide and gave a detailed insight into events held in South Africa, together with where to eat, play and sleep. Managing segments of the Business Development in Mauritius. I wrote and presented business proposals for large multinational companies in Mauritius and South Africa, including directors and executives at the oldest and largest banking institution in Mauritius and a new member only luxury resort in South Africa.

Working on multiple events at a time, I project managed national events for The Tax Institute. From event conception to evaluation. Now in its 9th Year, I planned and executed The Tax Institute’s Inaugural Superannuation Conference, which is now a permanent event on The Tax Institute's calendar. When planning The Tax Institute's States’ Taxes conference, I reduced costs by renegotiating all event-related contracts saving over $10,000 on this event alone without substituting the conferences quality or member experience.

My responsibilities as Event and Member Services Executive was similar to that of National Events Manager, however on a much smaller State level. I redeveloped and relaunched The Tax Institute's Breakfast Club, with a new name, image, venue setup and affordable registration options, thereby reducing event costs and significantly increasing registration numbers.
