Why does an 11-year-old call a scientist from the Department of Energy? To me that’s obvious, to learn about the technology driving changes in our communities. During my fifth-grade math and science class we had to do a research project, and I chose to focus on a car that was far ahead of its time. With drive-by-wire technology, cameras, and LCD screens to aid the driver, zero emissions, ‘skateboard’ powertrain, electric motors, and a ‘frunk’. This wasn’t a Tesla…it was made by GM in 2002. This began my love for technology and how it can change the way we live our lives. After 8 years in the Navy, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the coolest technology available, and the biggest toys I could think of...ships. I’ve led some of the most talented people America has to offer, and learned more from them than any school or classroom could have taught me. The past 8 years have been the opportunity of a lifetime, and I don’t regret a second of it. I enjoy forging the pieces so that we can come together to solve the puzzle. Whether that problem is getting someone from a faraway isolated place, home to their loved ones or teaching my peers how they can utilize the vast amount of technology available to them, the puzzle and teamwork are two themes I’m constantly in search of. I want the most complicated problem you have, and a group of people that are serious about creative solutions and having fun.
