About Patrick Kearns
I'm currently working on market discovery for a translational technology (Maxitope) which we believe could revolutionize vaccine and monoclonal antibody target discovery and lead to better treatments. This role capitalizes on my collaborative research performed with colleagues at the University of Edinburgh. My background is in clinical neurology and I have a long-standing interest in neuroinflammatory diseases, particularly those diseases triggered by infections. I hold a concurrent position as a Clinical Lecturer in Neurology/Epidemiology/Molecular Biology at the University of Edinburgh. There, I lead epidemiological and laboratory research activities on Multiple Sclerosis, aiming to unlock the factors contributing to its high incidence in Scotland and am completing studies for a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Medicine in Professor Nick Gilbert's lab focussing on the role of viruses in immune disease.Our market discovery for Maxitope is supported by prestigious funding bodies (BBSRC, Innovate UK, and ICURe Explore) and the development of the technology has received funding support from UKRI, Lifearc, BBSRC, MRC, and the Chief Scientists' Office (Scotland). As an inventor of the underlying technology and an active researcher, I am deeply committed to bridging the gap between innovative research and its practical application, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the lives of patients suffering from autoimmune and infectious diseases.
