Joining the small TAXI Calgary team in 2007 was another incredibleexperience, and an opportunity for me to focus on becoming a quintessential studio ambassador for our company’s burgeoning network in North America.At the Calgary office I was not only given the chance to improve my skills as a Mac Artist, but I was also given the chance to stand alongside our creative team to steward the WestJet brand across the country. In the busy two-anda-half years I spent in Calgary, I also helped grow our studio from just myself to a team of four people. This allowed me to have an instrumental role in the selection, hiring and training of our studio staff.

I may not have had the most glamorous of jobs when I started at TAXI as a Studio Administrator, but this first position I held definitely helped me understand what it meant to work in the TAXI studio (even if I was mostly opening dockets, ordering supplies and handling award show requests).I was promoted to Mac Artist in one year’s time and immediately began building files, retouching artwork and assembling pitch decks for client presentations and new business endeavours. I was quickly identified assomeone capable of upholding the process and quality expectations of TAXI’s creative teams.

At the conclusion of my short internship I was offered a contract for the role of Production Assistant, but it soon became apparent that I was needed more to fulfill the duties of a junior Mac Artist.During my year at Y&R, the ever-changing details of my job description made me as busy as the agency itself: I found myself archiving and filing completed projects, keeping weekly logs of laser printouts and billable items, building files and sending them to pre-press houses, working on award show submissions and client presentations, and generally being the welcome wagon for any freelancers we hired to help us out.
