Curiosity was a character trait of mine from the beginning—I always wondered the why and how of things. The ultimate manifestation of that for me was the computer. I knew I wanted to involve computers in my life. When college age hit, I was on my way studying computer science, but pivoted to philosophy halfway through the degree instead. The bug of curiosity hit deep. Studying philosophy taught me the fundamental concepts of rational thought and critical thinking which are unquestionably valuable and useful at all points in life; it does not leave.Since college, I've worked in the financial sector. Starting my career on an IT helpdesk, moving onto desktop support, and currently as a systems and infrastructure engineer. In my current role at BMO (formerly Bank of the West), I'm an endpoint management engineer, Linux server admin, and Microsoft ConfigMgr sysadmin. I've optimized the endpoint imaging process, standardized application packaging procedures, addressed numerous critical vulnerabilities, and brought on modern tools like git to make my colleagues' work lives easier.Some of my major accomplishments are listed below in my work experience, but I'm most proud of improving the end-user experience, whether for regular end users or server teams and developers. Such as implementing software deployment options and eliminating tedious backend procedures so application teams' focus can be spent elsewhere.I'm adamant about streamlining processes and procedures with automation and smart implementation to improve throughput between technical and management pipelines. My work life's mission is if I have to do something annoying more than once, it will be addressed with haste.As a hobby, I love homelabbing to learn new tech and provide quality-of-life improvements for my digital life. Whether that be through learning programming languages like Nix or Python, or implementing an enterprise grade network with opnsense. While I do a lot of Windows work in my professional life, at home I am an avid Linux user and contribute to the ecosystem by volunteering my time for various projects like NixOS to advance the FOSS message.I'm seeking roles more appropriate for my skillset and discipline today, which I feel are along the lines of DevOps or site reliability engineering. I always enjoy learning more about computers and what makes them tick; please indulge my curiosity and you will reap the benefits.
