Why do I call myself an Indoor Gardening Specialist?First off. I enjoy growing plants. Whether indoors or out, it's rewarding to me to take care of a plant and watch it grow from seed into a mature plant. I included 'Gardening' in the title instead of 'Plants' because, along with flowers and houseplants, I also grow vegetables - especially lettuces and herbs indoors.Indoors is the unique part of what I do. In 2012, I started growing indoors on a soil-less gardening system called a Tower Garden by Juice Plus. With a Tower Garden it's possible to grow lettuces and herbs, indoors, using less than 4 square feet of floor space. Because of this, I began to learn what's needed to bring what's normally grown outdoors, into your living room, office space, or school classroom.How did I become a 'Specialist?' I don't have a degree in Indoor Gardening. (I don't know that there is one.) But over the years I have learned much about growing plants. in 2015 I went through the Purdue Extension Master Gardener program and in 2016, I became a Certified Master Gardener. Since then I’ve taught indoor gardening classes and I continue to volunteer my time to educate gardeners.In 2015 I became a distributor for the Tower Garden. Since then I've helped schools across the country and in Canada grow lettuces and herbs in their classrooms on a Tower Garden. In 2023 I expanded the soil-less gardening systems I offer to include Harvest Walls by Harvest.Today.The training and experience I’ve had come together into what I offer schools, businesses, and individuals today through my company, Keep It Watered.For schools, including homeschools, I offer the opportunity to incorporate gardening into the classroom to teach students English, science, math, life skills, healthy eating habits, and much more.For businesses I offer leasing and caring for houseplants, soil-less growing systems for employees to enjoy fresh greens, and indoor plant consultation.For individuals I offer soil-less gardening systems and indoor plant consultation. Gardeners don’t actually grow plants. I believe that’s God’s job. But we do participate in the process by creating the environment where plants can flourish. That’s what I enjoy doing and would like to pass along to others.
