Kees Kaan is founder architect at KAAN Architecten and head of the Department of Architecture at TU Delft. Kees Kaan graduated at the Faculty of Architecture TU Delft in 1987. Since 2006 he has been professor of Architectural Design (Chair of Materialization) at TU Delft and initiator of the Complex Projects Chair, launched in 2012. The Research Chair’s area of interest is the large-scale projects that characterize this era of rapid global urbanization, developing analytical and critical thinking skills while merging fields of architecture and urbanism.In 2014 Kees Kaan founded KAAN Architecten. He leads the firm together with partners Vincent Panhuysen and Dikkie Scipio, after collaborating with Felix Claus for 25 years as Claus en Kaan Architecten.Over the years Kees Kaan has built up a national and international portfolio of architecture, urban planning, and interior design projects; notably the competition winning entry for the new terminal at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and the new Courthouse of Amsterdam. Other international projects comprise the Chambre de Métiers et de l’Artisanat in Lille and the Institut des Sciences Moléculaires d‘Orsay on the Paris Saclay plateau in France; the Crematorium Heimolen in Sint-Niklaas and Utopia Library & Academy for Performing Arts in Belgium; and finally, the Netherlands Embassy in Maputo, Mozambique, to mention a few. Kees Kaan is an international lecturer and sits on several juries and boards, both in the Netherlands and abroad.Various books and exhibitions have been dedicated to his body of work.In 2021 Kees co-founded FRANCON a womenswear label whose esthetic represents a modern, iterative approach to dressing inspired by architectural thinking.
