I was a summer mentor and tutor to five incoming seniors at the program. I spent the majority of my time being with the students in their college classroom and aided them on homework assignments, quizzes, and exams.

The Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM) winning JBMSHP is an intensive summer mathematics course for underprivileged yet academically talented Arizona high school students. Students who participate in the JBMSHP are enrolled in a vigorous 6 or 8-week summer session where students earn college credit while residing on the ASU Tempe campus. Students who participate in the JBMSHP are assigned 50-60 homework problems nightly, have bi-weekly quizzes, and weekly exams. As a student counselor, my role was directly responsible for group of 5-8 male students, in addition to working with 12 other counselors to oversee all 100 student participants. Students would often feel frustrated or overwhelmed due to the academic requirements of the JBMSHP. I provided encouragement to my students when they were struggling and mentored them in regards to university life.
