My background is in Law. I studied Law at a University in Nigeria and completed Level 3 Paralegal training in the UK. I decided to use this foundation in legal knowledge and practice to support and be a social worker. I developed my professional knowledge by demonstrating a critical understanding of the legal and policy frameworks and guidance applicable to social work practice. I obtained a Master of Arts with Merit in Social Work from Manchester Metropolitan University, where I learned that the social worker has a crucial role in challenging stereotypes, marginalisation and all forms of discrimination and oppression through advocacy and the ability to apply relevant legislation. I have demonstrated the law, theories, and methods and gained knowledge and experience of social work legislation, policies, and local authority procedures. I exhibited empathy, professional confidence, and capability, working with people to enable full participation in discussions and decision-making. I have experience working within the multi-agency sectors, professionals, the police, and statutory services, including education. I completed the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) level of the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF), which is an initial self-assessment against the Knowledge and Skills Statement for Social Workers in Adult Services (KSS). I currently practice as a social worker on the Adult Safeguarding Hub Team, a central referral contact for all adult safeguarding enquiries in Trafford Council, Greater Manchester United Kingdom.
