About Kehinde Joan Abayomi
Kehinde is a second-year PhD student in the Updike lab, specializing in developmental biology. Her research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms behind transgenerational epigenetic inheritance in Caenorhabditis elegans. Specifically, she is investigating the role of LOTR-1, a protein containing both LOTUS and Tudor domains, in regulating the expression of saeg-2. By exploring how lotr-1 mutants disrupt small RNA pathways and gene silencing, I aim to uncover the processes that influence gene expression across generations. Additionally, Kehinde is a dedicated leader focused on youth development and community empowerment. As a long-standing member of the YALI network in Sokoto, she has led numerous youth programs and seminars since 2017. She was the pioneer president of the "Election Without Blood Drop" campaign in Sokoto state, where she worked with organizations and institutions to promote peaceful, fair elections and democratic engagement. Kehinde is also a founding member of the GIZO market, an online platform supporting local entrepreneurs, and has served as financial secretary for both the 21st Century Entrepreneurs Hub and the medical CDS group in the NYSC scheme, contributing to financial management and community development.
