On behalf of the National Police Chiefs' Council, I work with key partners from the Home Office and the College of Policing on the Police Uplift Programme - the government manifesto promise to recruit a more diverse workforce of 47,000 new police officers, an additional 20,000 by 2023.I lead on communications, engagement, outreach and inclusion ambition for 43 UK police forces. I lead a team covering external, internal, stakeholder, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and targeted outreach and positive action disciplines.

Working for the Chief Constable, I supported performance delivery across 15 senior leadership teams covering West Midlands. Leading a large team, I guided delivery of the Chief Constable’s strategy, using stakeholder engagement, internal and external communications to increase trust, engagement and confidence in policing. Leading the Senior Officer team and senior leadership, I created and delivered a stakeholder engagement strategy to collaborate and inform community confidence, building relationships and trust across multiple channels and partners, particularly important to policing at times of community unrest and disturbance.Exercising creativity, collaboration and negotiation, I influenced significantly to drive the priority internal engagement strategy, establishing and delivering a ‘Values and Behaviours’ programme across the force to support inclusion. This was accompanied by staff engagement insight into internal opinion which was utilised to drive further activity. Leading corporate communications and business transformation and in partnership with staff networks and associations, I designed initiatives to engage 11,000 employees, translating the transformation and inclusion vision into clear tangible benefits for colleagues.

Leading a team of 12 media managers and officers, I oversaw the organisation’s media, internal communications and external engagement activity, managing one of the busiest/most high-profile 24-hour media responses in the country. This involved using considerable experience to manage day to day interaction and critical communications during high profile incidents, including serious public unrest, kidnap and commercial extortion and key and critical investigations. During this time, I established confidential and pre-trial briefings for media, resulting in accurate and focused media coverage and communication, increasing public confidence and managing reputational risk.
