I'm Keira Chang, a junior at The Harker School, San Jose. I am passionate about both science and writing, which led me to become a children's science book author, and in 2023 I authored and published "Marinara & Alfredo: How Do Rainbows Work?" – a book designed to inspire young girls in STEM, which became an Amazon.com best seller in 4 categories, including #1 in Environmental Science Books and #1 in Children's Science of Light & Sound Books. I was featured on KTVU Fox 2 News for this book. I followed this with "Marinara & Alfredo: How Do Ouchies Heal?" in 2024 which explored the physiology of wound healing, and once again made the Amazon best seller list and was #1 in Hot New Releases. My books have been adapted into animated read-aloud storybooks which are now being used in numerous preschools and elementary schools as educational curriculum, as well as within Lucile Packard Children's Hospital for patient education and on their own Sophie's Broadcast Studio channel. Beyond academics, I love volleyball and joined Harker's varsity team as a freshman. As starting setter, I helped my team win the 2022 League Championship, and qualified for the Central Coast Section playoffs in 2022 and 2023. I also compete in club volleyball, and currently play for Rage Westside 17-1. In between seasons, I enjoy coaching Harker's lower school volleyball team. In music, I am principal violist for The Harker School's orchestra, and have also played for the California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the California Orchestra Directors Association All-State String and Honor String Orchestras. I'm committed to giving back to the community through volunteering in the Tri-M Music Honor Society, contributing short stories to the San Jose Library, and actively participating in clubs like Women In STEM and the Harker Neurodiversity Club. Most significantly, I regularly visit classrooms from preschool through elementary school across Northern California to read my book to children and teach them science.
