Professional ActorBell Shakespeare May 2014 - Nov 2014Sydney, AustraliaHenry V By William Shakespeare Damien Ryan’s vision for Henry V is inspired by a true story – in 1941, for 57 consecutive nights during the London Blitz, a group of boys trapped in a bunker rehearsed a new play each week and would then perform it for others in the shelter. This production explores the rite of passage that violence and conflict offer as a threshold to manhood. It confronts the fact that – for all the horrors of war – true courage and brotherhood can inspire remarkable achievements. In this gripping new Henry V, a talented young cast tell the story of a king who unites his ‘band of brothers’ and a nation with his eloquent words and ideas, his triumphs and humanity. When the battle is won, this production will leave you feeling uplifted and exhilarated with the belief that the impossible is possible.Director Damien Ryan Designer Anna Gardiner Lighting Designer Sian James-Holland Composer & Sound Designer Steve FrancisVocals Composer Drew Livingston Movement & Fight Director Scott Witt Dialect & Voice Coach Jess ChambersAssistant Director Susanna DowlingWith Keith AgiusMatthew BackerDarcy BrownGabriel FancourtDanielle KingDrew LivingstonMichael SheasbyDamien StrouthosIldiko SusanyEloise Winestock -

TeacherPoint Break Drama - Acting School Feb 2012 - Mar 2012Dee WhyShakespeare 1 is a thorough introduction to the mechanics & performance demands of Shakespeare, under the expert tutelage of Bell Shakespeare & film/TV actor, Keith Agius.Shakespeare is an integral part of any actor’s development , and all actors will have to handle the rigour’s of Shakespeare at some stage. For any performer wanting to enter WAAPA, NIDA and other institutions Shakespeare Monologues are mandatory.Learn from the best in the industry, and get great pleasure from bringing Shakespeare to life!THE COURSEThe first thing any actor approaching Shakespeare must do is understand ‘what’ is being said. The course will begin with a thorough exploration of meaning through analysis of the text. Each student will have a monologue and a scene to investigate, rehearse and perform. We will cover blank verse and prose and discover the hidden directions Shakespeare has left for us.You will learn by getting up and doing but also observing others while we workshop the text in performance. Shakespeare is all about language, making the words your own and relishing the muscularity of great storytelling. Suggested reading and/or viewing is ‘Playing Shakespeare’ by John Barton. Students are also encouraged to obtain the Arden Shakespeare edition of each play they will cover (to be confirmed) as well as one of the following for text work: ‘Shakespeare’s Words’ by David & Ben Crystal, ‘Shakespeare Lexicon & Quotation Dictionary’ by Alexander Schmidt or C.T. Onions’ ‘Shakespeare Glossary’.

ActorBell Shakespeare Company May 2011 - Nov 2011JULIUS CAESARTo see the future one must only look to the past.Like many who came before him, and after him, Julius Caesar had the support of the people but the loathing of the players. They conspired. They persuaded. They whispered it was for the good of the country. All they needed to succeed was Brutus. Poor patriotic Brutus. He was like a son to Caesar and a poster boy for the republic. But not even a front-man of such unimpeachable integrity could avert the total and utter disaster their daggers set in motion. Peter Evans, Bell Shakespeare’s new Associate Artistic Director, takes this momentous piece of Roman history and transports it to the corridors of backroom politics. This time, when Caesar gets the axe, it’s the media who roar like an angry mob. This sharp political drama puts friendship to the test and reveals a stark contrast between our intentions and our actions. With Alex Menglet as Caesar and Kate Mulvany as the conniving Cassius, we go behind the scenes as yet another leader is forced from office.BY William ShakespeareDIRECTED BY Peter EvansDESIGNER Anna CordingleyLIGHTING DESIGNER Paul JacksonCOMPOSER/SOUND DESIGNER Kelly RyallMOVEMENT/FIGHT DIRECTOR Nigel PoultonVOCAL COACH Natasha McNamaraASSISTANT DIRECTOR Imara SavageWITHKeith AgiusRebecca BowerDaniel FrederiksenBenedict HardieKatie-Jean HardingAlex MengletColin MoodyKate MulvanyGareth ReevesJames Wardlaw
