I started my career in Surrey Police in 1999.I then moved to MPS and came to the decision that I would rather explore Promotion than continuing on the investigation pathway. I came to BTP in 2010 in September 2016 I moved to be the inspector in charge of the Suicide Prevention and Mental Health department. I am proud of how I made the department a lot more operationally aware. I succeeded in highlighting the excellent facilities and work provided by the department to outside agencies who now see the BTP rightfully, as leaders in safeguarding for those who present themselves to the rail network with a view to harming themselves. In February 2019 I relocated to be Ebbsfleet in Kent as the station commander. I identified that the resources in the area did not allow for the BAU calls to be answered and provide a problem solving approach to issues in the area. I created a small Tasking team whose objective was to identify issues in the area and adopt an approach and patrol method that would remove the issue completely. This proved to be very successful and prompted senior managers on to consider this approach and was seen as one of the significant components leading to a re-model of the division. This would incorporate the introduction of Proactive teams on the Division and from 02nd August 2020 a Pilot phase has been in place at Ebbsfleet and is scheduled to be in place until December. It has been a while since I’ve dedicated any time to my profile and as a result there has been quite a development since my last edit. In late 2021 I was given the opportunity to head up a pilot unit focusing on workplace violence on rail employees. The remit of the unit within the business case was to look for trends and patterns of increases in assaults on staff at either a location or a line of route using data as an indication. I decided to come away from this approach because for data to be generated an incident has to have happened so the actions of the unit would be reactionary rather than preventative. I decided to take the unit to TOC’s and ask them to tell us where they are having issues and include the slightest event. It’s also about talking to the staff who doing the work and get their feelings and empower them to tell us what’s happening so that they are part of the change. The unit is now permanent and has national coverage. We are making a credible difference in crime prevention and how staff are supported. As well as bringing offenders to justice.
