    I was the Heritage Officer for the project "Coalisland & East Tyrone: Historical Manufacturing Base of Mid Ulster" which was funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, in partnership with Mid Ulster District Council and others. The project focused on the industrial heritage of the region, which includes coal mines, potteries, brick works, textiles, glass making, the canal and railways. In my role I delivered a series of community activities such as plays, archaeological excavations, conferences, culture nights, training courses, guided walks, talks, publications, the website www.coalisland-lnp.com, public art and craft workshops.

    In brief, my duties included:- Researching, writing and designing over 40 temporary exhibitions on a variety of diverse themes including motorcycle road racing, local history, military history, sport, politics, art & craft, schools, community groups, architecture, archaeology etc.- Liaising with visitors, academic institutions, other museums, public institutions, community groups & government bodies.- Developing and delivering community events including lectures, festivals, activity days, book launches & workshops etc.- Developing and delivering education projects for all ages.- Developing long term strategies, business plans and managing ongoing projects which will ensure the growth and improvement of the venue.- Using various processes to evaluate exhibitions, events etc. in order to assess their success and identify areas in need of improvement.- In recent years, I completed significant work as the principal officer involved in the delivery of the £400,000 gallery fit-out in 2009. The project was grant aided by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).. Other HLF projects I have managed include an international exhibition exchange with Potchefstroom Museum, South Africa in 2012 (£37,800) and an education project for WWI in 2014 (£9,500). On behalf of Ballymoney Museum, I am working in partnership with a local bagpipe band on an HLF funded project engaging with young people in Ballymoney. I have also secured additional grant aid from an assortment of bodies for museum projects.- Managing the annual budget for exhibitions, events & collection management.- Researching and writing articles for publication in academic journals & local publications.- Writing and developing marketing & promotional material and representing the museum on television & radio.- Organising the biennial ‘Route Back Home’ international family history conference.- Establishing partnerships with overseas institutions in the Isle of Man, Republic of Ireland, Netherlands and South Africa.
