My primary role was on the operational and delivery side of the business ensuring we met the programme, ensuring the design met the brief, we were within budget and advising the client on any potential delays or additional cost items, amongst other things.As directors we all took an equal role with regards to marketing, each had their own client relationships to maintain as key account managers and also to build new relationships. With regards to my role this was generally building up relationships with main contractors due to my contracting knowledge and due to industry being driven by Design & Build projects and Main Contractor Framework agreements.Our main areas of work are Education, Health, Nursing Homes, Social and Private Housing. I worked for Haydon M&E a Design & Build Contractor with a turnover of £12M from the Southampton office. I started initially as an electrical design engineer and within a few months promoted to Design Manager overseeing the M&E Design in the office and then Design & Build Manager my other role was duty Holder under the ECA. I directly reported to the Regional Director and was one of three senior managers. My role involved managing staff for Design and Installation delivery to the Clients programme, Clients Brief and to the Budget assigned to each project. Each project was tracked on a bespoke Lotus Notes database with all costs and time allocated to each project, therefore tracking could be carried out and reports could be easily generated for each project. As a senior manager my role also involved marketing, visiting new clients, preparing PQQ’s and attending networking events to promote the company and build relationships.To assist in the above role I managed two mechanical and two electrical supervisors, CAD manager and one senior electrical and one senior mechanical design engineer. Due to the amount of time spent out of the office we would have weekly progress/update meetings with the design team and the installation team. At Haydon we worked on a variety of projects in Education, Leisure, Social Housing, Private Housing, Nursing Homes, Shopping Centre, Job Centre Plus for DWP, Hospital, Met Police, Rollalong, etc.We worked under the PPC 2000 Partnering Contracts which were open book and a collaboration with RokBuild, Dorset County Council, Dorset Care Trust and East Dorset Housing Association. This was very time consuming as each company had a representative on the Core Team which involved a lot of meetings. I worked as an Electrical Technician with the team who were outsourced from West Sussex County Council and we continued working on the West Sussex Property portfolio.

I started my career working on numerous sites as an electrician, foreman and then supervisor. I entered the Design Office in 1995 with West Sussex County Council working as an electrical design engineer on Durrington High School, Southwater Primary School and numerous other smaller projects from school extensions, rewires and Fire Station upgrades and surveys.
