A consultant and expert in how new medicines are developed by the life sciences industry and public sector. He advises at board level, including strategy and global operations. He has a deep understanding of how the healthcare sector relates to commercial practice. He is able to bridge and integrate the needs of ethical practice in both the public and commercial sectors to patient benefit. This includes oncology and haematology, infectious diseases, immunology and inflammation. He was originally a clinical haemato-oncologist in the UK and USA.He was a Past President and Chair of the Board of Trustees, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom. He advises Rosetrees Trust on the funding of grant applications in clinical research. He has advised numerous organisations including the Science & Technology Select Committee (UK), NICE, DFID, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Imperial College London, etc. Prior senior management and leadership positions in blue chip pharmaceutical companies where he led the clinical development of novel products from clinical phase I to regulatory approval across diverse therapeutic areas. This included clinical trials at all stages leading to global registration, e.g., pioneering triple combination ARV therapy with the first HIV-Protease Inhibitor, Invirase, Hoffmann-La Roche, before international registration, a new standard of care, and a major fall in global HIV disease mortality; and platinum therapy (Carboplatin) for ovarian cancer, Bristol-Myers International Corporation.
