About Keith Clark, Ph.D.
I am a first-generation college graduate who holds a doctorate in history from Northwestern University. Before going to college, I was a high school dropout and a U.S. Marine curious about the world. I turned that curiosity into a Ph.D. that allowed me to learn and travel extensively. Having lived, worked, and researched across the United States, China, Japan, and Taiwan has made me adaptable and comfortable in diverse groups and settings.I have deep experience developing curricula and teaching in the humanities. I have helped university students fulfill course criteria on historical periods from antiquity to the present, covering regions from around the world. At Northwestern, I also created and taught my own global history course on the United Nations. At the Hockaday School, I taught World History and AP U.S. History. I also designed and taught a social-impact course on contemporary global issues where students developed local solutions to global problems. Through these disparate experiences I have learned to clearly articulate goals and develop flexible lessons that help students learn both the content and the significance of topics addressed.Education does not have to be boring, though at 15 I wouldn't have believed that myself. Entertainment goes a long way to helping learners retain knowledge. After a number of years teaching, I have developed as a:• Talented educator with over 15 years’ experience meeting the educational needs of diverse audiences that have included adult learners, college students, and secondary students• Skilled manager of in-person, online, and hybrid classes ranging from 1:1 to 50+ students with positive evaluations from 90% of learners• Expert in curriculum design proven through 2 successful additions to course catalogues, one of which consistently surpassed 100% enrollmentMy time as a marine left me with the habit of early morning runs. I was startled when friends pointed out these morning jaunts were long enough to make me a long-distance runner. I have accepted that label, though Seattle’s hills test my endurance far more than Chicago or Dallas ever did.
