Led and delegated efforts of mechanical engineers and designers in product development including: consumer premise equipment, 1-4 RU high rack mounted central office equipment (+/-2kW power dissipation), outdoor aerial mounted products, and side-of-home fiber optic equipment. Ensured designs met the physical andenvironmental requirements from customers, including: Comcast, AT&T, Verizon, Altice etc, applying US or international standards, including: IEC, SCTE, NEBS, ASTM, UL, Telcordia, ISTA etc. Supervised testing at both in house and independent facilities. Examples of testing include vibration, shock, altitude, microphonics, acoustics, thermal, humidity, salt fog, wind-driven-rain, ESD, RF propagation etc.Validated thermal designs of early-stage products to avoid costly redesigns using thermal CFD software.Performed transient, steady state, natural, forced convection, and solar radiation simulations. Achieved good correlation, 5% or better, versus actual testing. Published technical reports (both simulation and physical testing) to internal and external customers. Acted as the mechanical lead for 8D root cause failure analysis, identifying the issue, developing a solution, incorporating that solution into production and updating the design process to avoid that problem in the future. For instance, performed a stress/strain analysis on a PWA exhibiting delamination and determined the strain levels under a large BGA exceeded acceptable limits caused by the excessive weight of a folded fin heat sink. Initiated a redesign, evaluated via simulation, performed P&E testing and updated the design process for allother PWAs designed with large ICs and heatsinks.Collaborated with the project teams and customers via regular meetings to stay updated on requirements, schedules, provide product development status, present results, answer questions and offer recommendations. Holder of several design and utility patents in electronic packaging and thermal design.
