About Keith Fraser

I work in the field of epidemiological modelling, currently modelling the transmission of yellow fever for the Vaccine Impact Modelling Consortium. Previously I worked on the modelling of anti-mosquito measures for the control of malaria, and on the phylogenetics of HIV in the UK. I have also been involved in data processing related to the COVID-19 pandemic.Prior to working in epidemiology, I carried out both experimental and modelling work in materials science, including completing my PhD on impurity control in semiconductor grade silicon and working on nanoscale materials characterization using scanning probe microscopy, characterization of light-induced defects in silicon solar cell material, and characterization of novel thin-film semiconductor devices.

As part of a project to develop high-performance combination scanning tunnelling/atomic force microscopes, I developed techniques to produce superior scanning probe tips using controlled evaporation in the field ion microscope. This work incorporated extensive numerical modelling of probe tip behaviour under high field conditions. I also carried out simulations of probe tip behaviour during scanning, including investigating conductive atomic force microscopy of insulating thin films.
