• TearScience is a fast growing medical device company which specializes in ophthalmic devices that treat Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, which is the root cause of lipid deficient evaporative dry eye.• An early employee within a high paced venture funded start-up, responsible for mechanical and industrial design design development of proprietary technology products. Responsible for idea generation, conceptual design, mechanical design (capital equipment and high volume disposable), product testing, prototypes for clinical studies, ergonomics and user interface design, and design controls. • TearScience’s devices (LipiFlow and LipiView) are FDA 510k approved and were developed in a high pressure cost-conscious environment. Participated in developing testing and submissions to satisfy FDA requirements and responding to FDA inquiries on the path to regulatory approval.• Responsible for developing manufacturing plans appropriate for low and high volume manufacturing, finding and vetting manufacturing sources, manufacturing implementation and ramp-up (US and Asia). Responsible for managing cross functional teams through early manufacturing hurdles in a fast, efficient manner. Responsible for developing and implementing product cost reduction strategies.• Hired design and development firms with appropriate capabilities to aid in development efforts.

• Directed and engineered products for clients including Procter & Gamble, Georgia Pacific, Maytag, Motorola, Artromick, and Radio Systems (Pet Safe Brand). Responsibilities included estimating new programs (develop project plan, schedules, development and product costs), directing product teams from product concept through manufacturing ramp-up, and performing mechanical engineering design.• Directed and worked with multi-disciplinary teams that included the integration of research, brand development and marketing, industrial design, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software development, prototyping, quality, supply chain management, and manufacturing engineering. • Hired and worked with other product development consulting firms. US and Asian partners were hired to complete product teams, as needed. • Product development and manufacturing experience in China. Successfully developed and executed manufacturing ramp-up activities for three (3) products. Took seven (7) trips to China to work through design and manufacturing details including tooling, testing and quality issues, production part inspections and approvals.
