Prescribed Fire Specialist
• Develop prescribed fire plans for Eglin, Tyndall and Barksdale Air Force Base using federal interagency standards that manage fire applications, contingencies, and ignition sequences to safely meet natural resource, ecological, and/or fuel mitigation objectives• Direct and/or assist with ground and/or aviation mission assignments in the suppression, planning, preparation, and implementation of wildland fires at Eglin and Tyndall AFB• Ensure fire management plans address contingencies for wildland fire by identifying tactics, strategies, and availability of resources through partnering agencies• Direct US Forest Service and US Fish and Wildlife Service detailers in the application of prescribed fire on Department of Defense lands, adhering to Air Force polices, guidelines, and instructions• Coordinate mobilization/de-mobilization and logistical support for detailers to sustain wildland fire operations, suppression tactics, preparedness levels, prevention activities, and training opportunities based on requirements of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG)• Brief Tyndall and Barksdale Air Force Leadership on prescribed fire operational procedures, smoke management techniques, and mission de-confliction strategies• Work directly with Natural Resources staff foresters, ecologists, archeologists, and biologists to foster valuable relationships in support of conservation values as stated in the Integrated Natural Resource Management Plan (INRMP)• Create operational and media notification maps utilizing ArcGIS, V-Smoke, and/or Hysplit smoke models• Direct and/or assist in forest management ecological monitoring plots using the North Carolina Vegetation Survey Protocol and Brown’s Planar Intercept Method for vegetation and fuels inventory• NWCG qualifications: Prescribed Burn Boss Type 2, Incident Commander Type 4, Division Supervisor Trainee, Task Force Leader, Strike Team Leader, Firing Boss, Engine Boss, Crew Boss, Helicopter Crewmember
