After a very successful few years developing our High Voltage electrical contracting business, Bowers Projects Limited, we have become an Independent Connections Provider. (ICP). My new opportunity is to build this new business, from scratch, to be a significant contributor to the Group.For those who don't know an ICP can provide a compelling, competitive alternative to the local electricity company (DNO) for either upgrading existing supplies or installing new connections from the 'grid' to an end user. Bowers Projects Ltd specializes in HV services to the larger end user.

Bowers Projects is the on site delivery division of Bowers Electricals Limited and is able to offer maintenance & installation of all HV products up to 132kV, including High Voltage & Low Voltage cable installation, jointing, testing and commissioning. Part of the Bowers Group, a family owned firm, we have the backup and support of state of the art manufacturing and refurbishment facilities of High Voltage equipment.My role is to develop long term relationships with customers for both the supply and installation as well as ongoing maintenance of High Votage equipment. The development of Low Loss transformers I see as an opportunity for many sites to take a big chunk out of their energy consumption, at source, which may not have been considered before.

BENNING Power Electronics (UK) Ltd. designs, manufactures, delivers, installs and services world-class solutions for powering communications and industrial equipment. BENNING has over 60 years of experience in power conversion and has a long-standing reputation for providing highly reliable solutions with unsurpassed support. My role was to develop sales of Benning's bespoke power supply equipment. Achievements included a pipeline of new opportunities focussed on the utility marketplace.

Development of sales collateral for energy efficient retrofits to plant rooms.Presenting the benefits of variable speed drives and sophisticated controls to 'Greening the Government'.Having created a sales strategy took the initial steps to take the concept to market with some success.

Global Energy Solutions was established to market the US form of Energy Performance Contracting.My responsibilities included presenting to Regional Development Agencies, Local and Central Government as well as numerous Quangos and commercial organisations on the benefits of Performance Contracting. I carried out both initial fact finding and due diligence for the group on the potential for energy saving measures present within JCI's existing FM customers.For the majority of the time I was the UK's only sales resource and took the sales lead for several major projects.As a qualified lighting designer I took the technical lead for several energy saving lighting projects.

SSE is keen to take advantage of the 'Competition in Connections' opportunity to establish out of area High Voltage distribution networks. My challenge was to establish where SSE could invest in new networks which would create an ongoing income stream through the Use of System Charge.With a lead time of many years I managed to initiate several large scale projects in both England and Wales which have gone on to provide SSE with solid growth opportunities.
