I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1974 and shortly after became a partner in a West End firm of Accountants. In about 1979 I set up as a sole practitioner and in 1983 I started dabling with computers when I became a joint owner fo a company that sold computer systems to professional Accountants called Management Information Centre Limited (MICL). This continuted until 1989 when I ran a computer consulting business.In 1991 I co-founded a software company, Broadwood Information Technology Limted, with the aim of writing Accounts Production software in Microsoft Windows. In 1995 the company merged with MICL and we launched a new range of software under the brand name of VIZTOPIA.The company was sold to Solution 6 Pty Limited in 2000 and I was retained as a software development manager. I continued this role when Solution 6 was sold to MYOB in August 2004 and again when MYOB was sold to Wolters Kluwer in 2008. I left Wolters Kluwer in 2012.Viztopia, the software I wrote, still generates about £3m recurring revenue and services about 1,300 practices.I am an advanced user of all Microsoft Office products.I currently use Visual Studio 2010 but having been experimenting with the beta of Visual Studio 2012.I use C# and VB.NET and have used C++.I have used most flavours of Microsoft SQL Server and currently use 2008 R2.I can write stored procedures in T-SQLI am familiar with a number of the Redgate products for SQL Server and Visual Studio.I have used Visual SourceSafe and Team Foundation Server extensively.I have been learning development for iOS using Apple Xcode and have written a few apps for iPhone and iPad. I plan to further these skills.I have a keen in interest in cinema and music and am a competent guitarist doing the occasional charity performance when called out of retirement.
