Brought in to spearhead the rapid creation of an R&D function in the UK from scratch, to design and develop a range of state-of-the-art technology products for sale within the then emerging and lucrative global telecommunication and television broadcasting digital landscape. Devised and executed technology strategy and development roadmaps to position the company as a market leader in digital multimedia and distribution products. Recruited a highly skilled electronics and software engineering team and directed new product development teams in the UK and Sweden.Created the company’s first transmission product codec ETSI TV345 and then developed the world’s first multi- standard HD codec (BitLink). Led product demonstrations and technical negotiations with clients and secured multi-million-pound sales and long-term contracts with organisations such as the BBC, ARTE, RTE, CBS and PBS.Established the ETSI TV345 product as an integral component of the BBC’s first UK wide digital network, and BitLink as the preferred product to enable HDTV stream delivery to millions of properties in the USA, China and Europe.Achieved international recognition winning the European Information Society Technology Prize for Innovation in Design for the HD codec BitLink.Created a sustainable technology development platform to enable the company to explore and pursue additional market opportunities within the digital cinema industry. Hired to develop application data, characterisation and testing of the company’s flagship MPEG2/DVB set top box chipset. Achieved a broadcast industry first by writing software code and establishing a hardware set up to decode an off-air satellite DVB signal to picture using LSI’s chipset.Embedded best practices and established guidelines for the setup, powering and layout of the programmable PLLs used within the MPEG2 decoder chip.

Led electronic hardware and software design projects to deliver new product developments for use within the telecommunication and broadcast industry. Delivered video and audio compression systems, digital vision mixer and router control systems from initial concept through testing to market launch. Controlled engineering changes and oversaw post launch design modifications and drove existing product enhancements to maintain company advantage over the competition.
