I am a clinical academic and pro- vice chancellor / executive dean for the faculty of medicine, health and life science at Swansea university, and an independent board member of Swansea Bay University Health Board. My research interests are psychiatric epidemiology, the management of mental disorders in primary care and community settings especially suicide, self harm and patient perspectives. Increasingly my work draws on mental health informatics. I work clinically in the NHS as a psychiatrist in Swansea. Other activities include chairing the Welsh Psychiatric Society, being a director of Swansea's Volcano Theatre Company, a member of the professional reference panel for the mental health charity HAFAL and a member of Mind Cymru's Board Pwyllgor Cymru.I was Dean and Head of the medical school at Swansea University from 2012-2020.From 2016-2020 I was the elected Vice President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and chair of the RCPsych in Wales. Before that I was head of NISCHR - the Welsh Government body then responsible for policy, strategy, and funding of health and social care research in Wales.
