I am a senior software engineer and entrepreneur with 15+ years of experience focused on systems architecture, backend development, and startups. I've been at early-stage companies for most of my career.I've been fortunate enough to accrue years of experience building, scaling, and managing teams from scratch. Building out interview processes is something I've come to love because finding the right people is certainly the most important part of my job. Helping those people succeed is the second most important part of my job.At Blue Apron, I was engineering hire number five. I was fortunate enough to build out some of the early core systems and felt honored to be put in charge of architecting the company's warehouse management system (WMS) which managed millions of pounds of food per year. The WMS engineering team eventually grew to over ten people.I've always loved the harder challenges of computer science, and especially loved the area of robotics. After Blue Apron, I decided to take a year-long sabbatical and focus exclusively on machine learning and its intersection with robotics. I was able to utilize reinforcement learning which enabled a balancing robot to learn to balance itself by training it's own neural network (usually they use PID controllers). This work helped me land a job at WeWork in a robotics laboratory where I was able to continue my studies for another year. During this time I also helped WeWork with more practical issues involving building out predictive models related to floorplans.
