Since joining the team at GL Hearn in 2016, I have been involved in a wide range of business rates matters to an equally wide cross section of occupiers. Most of my experience spans the licensed property sector and representing our food store client's interests in the petrol retailing arm of their businesses. However, I have experience in many other property sectors from car parks, a commercial port, football stadia, hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, event spaces, and visitor attractions.In terms of client base, as well as in leisure, my role has included landlord, high street retail and industrial sectors. More recently I have adopted a technical role within GL Hearn, serving both colleagues and clients, and also overseeing our essential administrative functions. I have been involved in the Wellbeing aspects of work for some years now, specifically communicating with the wider team on this issue, in particular through the pandemic, and it's legacy impact on how we now work. Heading the Southampton hub location as part of the GL Hearn management team has been my privilege since 2021, as it is where our essential support and client liaison functions are based, not least our industry leading rate payment management functions. It was very rewarding to see how well our teams adapted to new premises in November of that year, and equally how this team has integrated with our new WSP colleagues, and another office move to bigger and better premises in September 2023.

Having joined the Valuation Office as a graduate in 1990, the majority of my time there was spent in the non-domestic rating assessment of many and varied classes of property, including retail, office, and industrial. However, this developed into more specialist work in the valuation of public houses, restaurants, and petrol filling stations. My experience of these classes spans a 20 year period. This culminated in regional advisory role, together with work on the National Class Co-ordination teams at the VOA. Ultimately I spent the last 18 months of my career in a management role in the South West Region, as a Rating Team Leader, specifically overseeing a team involved in the 2017 Revaluation.
