Through TEKsystems, I've supported Costco Wholesale and the Washington State Office of Financial Management as an Engineering Leader. In both roles, I provided extensive engineering and quality subject matter expertise, contributing to Costco’s global eCommerce expansion and Washington State’s major upgrade from a legacy ERP system to Workday, which imaged 167 state agencies.This required assessing and analyzing existing quality engineering methodologies, automation, frameworks, and tooling to define areas of improvement while also incorporating best practices into comprehensive roadmaps and strategies. I was also in charge of development of testing strategies, testing plans, testing resources, and testing reports. From a leadership standpoint, I advised, trained, and guided members of the quality engineering team on testing plans, processes, tools, and templates, collaborating across both functional and technical teams to ensure business objectives were achieved.

Working as a Senior Engineering Manager on the Alexa Video team, I owned quality engineering for Alexa launches of YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Winter/Summer Olympics, and Thursday Night Football, covering global devices in our NAM, LATAM, APAC, and EMEA markets. I was instrumental in building and leading a QE organization spanning 25 engineers and 3 managers; crafting a multi-year Quality Engineering roadmap, and managing the Engineering Configuration & Infrastructure Management charter for unit, dev, integration, test, and load/performance, ensuring all systems were scalable and performant. Specific achievements include delivering 28% cost savings, increasing test coverage by 35%, and improving software delivery time 4x (from twice a month to twice a week) through automating integration, regression, and E2E test suites and enforcing test standards.

In my first few years at Amazon, I contributed heavily to the Fresh/Whole Foods/Prime Now grocery division, developing the quality engineering organization that powered these teams. Some noteworthy accomplishments include:➡ Built out the entire QE org, including recruiting and hiring 40 engineers and 4 managers serving 250+ developers and 25 global programs across NAM, UK, Germany, and Japan.➡ Led QE for the launch of Amazon’s very first one-hour grocery delivery in Tokyo, Berlin, Munich, UK, and the US, as well as the first Whole Foods pickup and delivery experience, resulting in $4.96B revenue. ➡ Spearheaded the team’s transition from Waterfall-based manual work to a fully automated, Agile org. This achieved 30% cost savings, improved our delivery time by 2x, and increased testing coverage by 25%.➡ Introduced reusable code and libraries as well as other testing best practices.

In my final role at Nordstrom, I founded and managed a 14-person team, comprising engineers, SDETs, and an SDM, in support of Nordstrom’s largest IT initiative in history. This included the transition of several legacy merchandising systems to a more modern, scalable enterprise platform. The team oversaw quality engineering for Merchandising, Direct (Nordstrom.com), Physical Stores, Finance, Nordstrom Product Group Supply Chain, and Enterprise Analytics. I also pioneered the development of Nordstrom’s first service-oriented architecture framework (in partnership with test architects and the Infosys testing CoE), which saved $1.5M, increased the test automation footprint by 25%, and made release cycles 30% faster. As well, I owned the PoC for the legacy IAM transition to enterprise IAM (AWS), led the implementation, and coordinated the handoff to the DevOps team. As a leader, I was also heavily involved in the management of staff resource plans, evaluation of SOWs against deliverables, and oversight of a $2.5M team budget.

As the Quality Engineering Manager for Nordstrom Canada, I led the global QE for the very first launch of Nordstroms' Canada locations (six Nordstrom stores and seven Nordstrom Racks), which ultimately brought in $377M in revenue. Owning the performance engineering charter for several departments spanning the US and Canada, I partnered cross-functionally to ensure the delivery of high-performing systems and applications for departments such as eCommerce, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Store Operations, and several others. Moreover, I built a top-tier Performance Engineering Team, shifting the culture from a performance testing focus to a performance engineering mindset, in addition to formulating and executing a new performance engineering roadmap.I also managed the PoC for an HP LoadRunner replacement, using JMeter, SOASTA Cloud Test, and a self-provisioning portal to aid developers in performing unit test code at an improved level.

In my first several years at Nordstrom, I held positions as a Quality Engineering Manager and Quality Engineering Test Lead. I owned the test optimization charter, which was focused on automation coverage, risk- and requirements-based testing, and standardization of reporting and defect classification. A few of my top achievements include:➡ Spearheading the first-ever fully-automated regression suite for Integrated Purchase Orders for Allocation. ➡ Slashing costs by 40% and enabling 100% test coverage, complete traceability, and report verification by managing a PoC for impactful data warehouse test automation tools. For this accomplishment, the team was recognized with Nordstrom's Innovation Award.➡ A 20% increase in automation footprint in Mobile POS, accomplished through implementation of improved review and scoping processes.➡ Scaling the team a massive 340%.➡ Creating new job descriptions and role competencies for QE as part of a major organizational transformation. ➡ Overseeing project budgets of up to $675k and 13k hours of labor time.

As a Quality Engineering Manager at NYK Business Systems Americas, I led the design and development of a new Performance Engineering Laboratory and Automation Laboratory, in addition to directing a global team of 50 QA engineers in performing all daily SLDC support and testing activities. As the liaison between clients and Engineering, I wrote functional specs, process diagrams, and system requirements to ensure the alignment of technical solutions with customer requirements.
